چکیده

L-band signal has excellent penetration property to the natural targets, i.e., forest and desert, and thus the SAR interferometry in the forest region is made available. Since the penetration property depends on the polarization, the distributed targets in the Amazon cannot be used for the polarimetric calibration source unless the polarization dependence can be clarified. Use of dense forest for the polarimetric calibration was developed and the method clarified the polarization dependence of the penetration property for the uniform forest region. We applied the method and derived the penetration characteristics of the Amazon rainforest.

Comparison of L- and X-band POLSAR Data for Characterization of Polarization Orientation Angle Shift Induced by Man-made Structure

In this paper, we offer an overview of the frequency characteristics on the polarization orientation angle shifts induced by Man-made structures. Nowadays, it is recognized that this parameter is closely related to the target azimuth slope. The algorithm to estimate the orientation angle shifts from polarimetric SAR data of urban area was suggested. By means of this algorithm, we compare longer...

Generation of Decadal Global High Resolution L-band Sar Dataset for Forest Carbon Tracking

Recently, the forest observation using the spaceborne sensor becomes a top issue in the carbon monitoring. Covering more than 20% of the global terrestrial areas, forests are rapidly decreasing, corresponding to 20% carbon dioxide release from the land. Deforestation and forest degradation mainly occurred in the developing country. L-band SAR is sensitive for monitoring the forest biomass, fore...

Polarimetric Calibration for a Ground-Based Radar, and Comparison of the Polarimetric Parameters with Air-Borne SAR Obtained from a Forest

A polarimetric ground-based radar (GB-radar) system operated in the L-band has been developed. The frequency range of GB-radar is 1.215 to 1.3 GHz, which is the same as that of Japanese satellite-borne SAR, PALSAR-2 (Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar), and Japanese L-band air-borne radar, i.e., Pi-SAR-L2 (Polarimetric and Interferometric Airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar L2). Po...

Pi-SAR-L2 Observation of the Landslide Caused by Typhoon Wipha on Izu Oshima Island

Pi-SAR-L2 full polarimetic data observed in four different observational directions over a landslide area on Izu Oshima Island, induced by Typhoon Wipha on 16 October 2013, were analyzed to clarify the most appropriate L-band full polarimetric parameters and observational direction to detect a landslide area. Japanese airborne Pi-SAR-L2 and PiSAR-L data were used in this analysis. Several L-ban...
